• My Favorite Things: James Andrew

My holiday profiles would not be complete without featuring one of my favorite people—James Andrew. Though James and I only recently meet, I feel as though I have know him forever. Not only do I adore him, but I love his sense of style. My husband, son and I had the pleasure of meeting James and his partner Scott for drinks while in New York and we look forward to seeing them both again in the near future.

My favorite gifts to give this year?
Cire Trudon “Trianon” candles (candle maker to the court of Versailles). They evoke the country life and dreams of Marie Antoinette. Also, the book Harmonic Wealth by James Arthur Ray. It’s an amazing book that tells us exactly what we need to do to create the life of our dreams.

    My favorite gift to receive?
Gifts for my whippets Rupert and Nigel and donations to my favorite charities (mostly animal rescue).

My favorite way to celebrate the holidays?
I like to celebrate by entertaining at home, cooking fantastic meals—breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love to set a great table. I put pots of paper whites, amaryllis and Rigaud cypress green candles everywhere! Of course no celebration is complete without Dom Pérignon, great wines and great friends. I try to create an environment that engages all the senses—it just does not get better than that!

    My favorite luxury in life?
Taking a minute or two to savour a moment like the wonderful photo posted on The Peak of Chic taken from a 1948 House & Garden. A beautiful table, holiday decorations and a very chic couple taking a moment to be intimate just before their guests are due to arrive—now that is a luxurious moment!

    My favorite current books?
The above mentioned Harmonic Wealth by James Arthur Ray , I am learning so much and these subtle shifts in thought and perception make all the difference in achieving one’s dreams. I also love the new Jacques Grange book—what an amazing list of clients and a spectacular body of work—genius!

    My favorite holiday song?
David Bowie and Bing Croby’s version of Little Drummer Boy.

    My favorite party clothes?
A Gucci black wool dinner jacket with black velvet buttons and trim, a tartan tie or shirt and black velvet pants. Gucci’s version of a Belgian loafer in black suede and leather and red cashmere socks.

    My favorite holiday desert
    ?
    Bûche de Noël—tasty and chic!

    My favorite city?
New York, I think it is the center of the universe! Anything can happen here, I love all the excitement and the possibilities.

    My favorite cities for shopping?
    New York, Paris and London.

    My all time favorite movie?
Auntie Mame. I never tire of it and it always brings a smile to my face. Now why didn’t I have an Aunt like that?
