I first met designer and fellow Houstonian Katie Stassi Scott in 2008 (just after she was named a top 10 designer by domino). We met at Starbucks for coffee and soon one hour turned into two….five years later we are still friends. There were many things that drew me to Katie early on (talent and kindness being near the top). However, it was her sincerity, honestly and faith left a strong impression on me many others.
When domino asked of her design credentials she simply stated, “They’re a gift from God.” It was her honest answer that struck a cord with readers and soon her inbox was filled with notes from friends and new fans.
Feeling more inspired for having inspired others to consider their God-given talents, she began journaling and contemplating the reality of her spirituality. Looking to deepen her connection and journey, Katie began searching for vintage religious treasures to serve as further inspiration. It was during that time she also discovered a lack of modern, high-end spiritual jewelry. At that moment Katie’s ingenuity, spiritual life and design world intersected and she decided to launch Katie Design Jewelry. A fusion of luxury, traditional religious symbols and iconic relics with a modern interpretation set these jewels apart from anything I have seen on the market.
I have personally been inspired by Katie’s continued success in the interior design world. Most recently Katie won best in Residential Interior Design for the 2013 PaperCity Excellence in Design Awards judged by Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Mary McDonald, Bobby McAlpine and Greg Tankersley. And now I am excited for her new jewelry venture.
In just a few weeks I will do a full post on the collection, and one lucky All the Best reader will receive something special from the Katie Design collection…stay tuned.
